So for the past few weeks, I've followed a somewhat stable schedule that balances time with family, time at work, and time with ICF (the InterVarsity ministry to international students). Between cooking dinner and cleaning at home, and trying to keep up at work, I've had the chance to help some students with homework--especially essays and papers. This is such a great way to build trust and develop relationships with students who may not have such mastery of the English language yet.
Today, I had planned to meet with one student to help proofread an essay. After we'd been sitting for a while, he mentioned that he had invited a girl he met at the campus writing center to come for essay assistance too. As it turned out, not long after he told me that, she came up to our table. After introductions and acquaintances were made, ICF meetings naturally came up, and she seemed very interested in attending--not only for the homework help and dinners too! The fact that ICF stood for International CHRISTIAN Fellowship did not seem to deter her from wanting to attend either.
On another note, the past few topics discussed at the meetings really struck a sensitive place in many students. Things like forgiveness, judging, who Jesus is, and what Jesus did for us seemed to be topics that sunk deep in students' souls. Please continue to pray for God's work to CONTINUE, and that we'd all be humble enough to recognize and follow His leading!
